When we heard Ryker’s story we couldn’t help but sit down with him to learn a little more. We were inspired by Ryker’s industrious nature and his drive to help the community.
At just 12 years old, Ryker used his drone to check on his parent’s roof for damage following a windstorm in late January. He couldn’t help but think that others in his community may need their roofs, drainpipes and eavestroughs looked at too.
A friend of his uncles gave him $5 to check his roof, and with the help of his Mom, he put a listing on Facebook Marketplace offering up his services in exchange for monetary donations. With that, a small business was born!
Ryker decided he wanted to give back to his community after learning how difficult the months following the holiday season can be for local charities, especially during COIVD-19. He decided to donate a portion of his proceeds to Kelowna’s Gospel Mission.
We were so inspired by his drive to make the most of an otherwise tough year and do something impactful within his community.
Ryker’s community-driven mission to help his neighbours reflects that of the Kelowna Gospel Mission - helping in-need members of the community. That is why we donated $2500 to the Gospel Mission in his honour.
