As much as we look forward to summer in our beautiful wine and fruit region, we can still take full advantage of the winter months and do it in style. Regardless if you board or ski, you can still head up to the hill and enjoy the activities, amenities and apres ski while looking fresh from head to toe - dressing warm does not need to mean pillsbury doughboy!

We partnered up with the local stores ONE Boardshop and Foursight Supply Co., who decked out our team in the hottest threads for a getaway to the Okanagan's champagne powder capital, Big White Ski Resort.

Neutral Colourskeep it simple

Though you'll still catch people rockin' the neon ski suits of the 80s — generally, neutral or toned down colour variants are what you'll be seeing most of while on the hill.

Whether you want to make it playful with a pop deep fuchsia, teal or red like the girls, and our dude Dylan did, or keep it simple and classy with desaturated grey and tan like Sharkie — the options are endless when it comes to mixing and matching muted colours, keeping clashing to a minimum.

How to layer for your dayYou never know what a blue bird day will bring!

Despite the fact that you plan on spending your day playing in the snow, that doesn't always mean you'll be chilly.

Shredding the hill can make you work up a sweat and with the high elevation of Biggie, a chance of sunshine isn't out of the question, so layers are your best friend!

Our crew was decked out and ready for all kinds of weather.

On the bottom it is always a safe bet to throw some leggings or sweatpants on underneath your ski pants and thankfully with the Volcom, 686, Burton and Airblaster branded ones our team wore, things didn't get overly bulky making it easy to board, ski and even skate!

Up top, Kayleigh, Dylan and Sharkie rocked some rad hoodies underneath their jackets.

Kayleigh and Dylan kept things neutral with a dark grey Burton hoodie and a lighter grey One Board Shop hoodie, while Sharkie had some fun in his camo RIDE pull over. Bri kept with her colour scheme and rocked a pink puffer jacket in between runs.

Fashion meets functionClear eyes, full hearts, can't lose

Whether they are protecting your eyes from flying snowflakes or shading them from the shining sun, goggles are a must have on the hill.

Just because they are used for safety purposes doesn't mean they have to look akin to something you'd see in a weld shop.

Nowadays, goggles come in all shapes, colours and comfort levels.

A simple tint to a gnarly iridescent lens, a basic black or white strap to one that colour matches to tie together your entire hill ensemble — goggles are just another way for you to personalize your get up!

Comfort is keyGet the right fit!

One of the most important parts of assembling your gear for the hill has to be comfort level.

After all, you will likely be hopping on and off chair lifts, swerving down hills and lugging heavy equipment around.

From main jackets and pants right down to the toques and mitts, the brands we got to try offered both comfort, warmth and functionality but most importantly, they fit right!

Often times, winter gear can fit snug due to the extra padding, so it is important when buying to consult the staff at the store. Our girls Alissa and Chelsea from Foursight and One, took the time to find the right fit to optimize mobility and obviously, make us look pretty damn good for being totally bundled in the dead of winter.

Apparel contributed for this edition comes from local retailers One Board Shop and Foursight Supply Co. If you’re looking for stellar winter gear to hit the slopes at Biggie with, look no further!

Our fashion column, What to wear in Kelowna, will now be published monthly featuring local retail stores, local locations and local people! Check out our previous issues! We would love your feedback on what you think!
