As summer comes to an end here in Kelowna, the start of the school year is just around the corner.

Cure those end of summer blues by treating yourself to some new outfits to head back to class in style.

We partnered up with One Boardshop to supply us with this season's back to school trends, Foursight Supply Co. to accessorize us and Okanagan College to show you the looks to rock this school year.

Yes, plaid is still in!Keep on collecting flannel

A plaid or flannel button down is no longer just for the Lumberjack's, but a staple in anyone's closet!

From the classic red and black, to deep blues or even a 70's inspired burnt orange, you can find yourself a flannel to pair well with any outfit or mood.

A good flannel is the perfect centre piece or accessory for any outfit. Make it the focal point by pairing it with a simple solid coloured T-shirt, layer it up with a jacket or accessorize with it by wrapping it around your waist.

Return of the sleeves

Sweater WeatherIt's sad, but it's coming

Gone are the days of tees and tanks, but it's not all bad. There is nothing quite like the soft, warm hug of a new sweater or long sleeve.

Ladies, now is your chance to live your best cozy life all the while looking adorable doing it.

A chunky knit sweater in a neutral colour is a must have! Keep it casual with jeans and sneakers or get fully snug as a bug and rock it with leggings, boots and a messy bun.

Don't be afraid of colour! Just because it's almost fall, that doesn't mean you're destined for a wardrobe akin to the colour of the changing leaves. Add a pop of something bright to keep your summer vacation lasting just a little bit longer.

And for the dudes— windbreakers are all the rage!

Not only are they great for combating the crisp fall air, but, they can add a whole lot of personality to your outfit.

Find one that best suits your style. Whether it's a calm colour like a tame blue to compliment your eyes (like the one Nick is rocking to the left) or patterned featuring blocks of colour, these practical and fashionable jackets are a great option for the transitioning weather!

Accessorize your lookFind pieces that can go with any outfit

Accessorizing can take an outfit to new heights but lets face it, being a student can take a lot out of you, and you won't want to always find the best necklace to match your shirt.

Keep things practical with these simple accessories that can go a long way.

Watches

A good watch can go a long way and the possibilities are endless.

Whether you want to spice things up with a unique face and band colour or keep things classic with a sophisticated and simple leather band and eggshell face, a watch will help you stay on time for your classes (or at least have you showing up fashionably late).

Hats

Between midterms and essays, it is just a natural fact that a lot of students don't have the time to go through their full hair care routine in the shower.

Hide the fact that you're on day two of dry shampoo with a wickedly stylish hat. Whether you want to sport a flat brim or keep those floppy brims out well past their beach days, you do you!

Know that either way, you'll look less tired on the outside as you do on the inside!

A good excuse to get a new bagTextbooks have to go somewhere

No matter how hard you hit the gym over summer break, you're not going to be able to carry all those text books on your own.

Invest in a new backpack to help keep your work flow organized and easier to carry.

Nowadays backpacks come in all shapes and sizes. From smaller ones with room for a laptop and notebook, to the big kahunas that have room for all your books, laptop and prof, be prepared for all things this semester can throw at you.

The best part? With all the variety in bags now, you're sure to find one that fits your style, making it an accessory on it's own!

Hopefully we have helped give you some back to school style inspo, now go slay the halls and show this school year who is boss!

Our fashion column, What to wear in Kelowna, will now be published monthly featuring local retail stores, local locations and local people! We would love your feedback on what you think!
