It’s becoming very hard to please everyone in our group when it comes to planning summer vacation destinations. Someone will complain about not wanting to sleep outdoors, or that it’s too hot, or that it’s too expensive, or that they’ll be bored. The list goes on, and the planning becomes stressful.

The whole point of a weekend getaway is to enjoy activities that you like; whether that is relaxing, adventuring, eating, sipping or swimming. Wouldn’t it be nice to find a place that had something for everyone? This past weekend, we found a place that ticks every box.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort is located just two and a half hours North East of Kelowna, or two hours East of Kamloops which makes for the perfect weekend road trip after work on a Friday. Have to keep the kids entertained? No problem. There’s lots of kid-friendly activities to keep everyone in the family happy.

Here are five reasons why you should try Revelstoke Mountain Resort as a summer getaway destination this year:

1. The Pipe Mountain Coaster

This is 1.4 km of absolute joy, that brought out the inner child of everyone in our group. We found ourselves giggling like we were kids again as we sped through the forest and down the mountain reaching up to 42 km/hour. The ride was about three minutes in length, depending if you put the brakes on or kicked it up a notch holding the acceleration lever on full speed. The choice is yours!

Even when we were eating breakfast or riding up the gondola, we could hear people absolutely howling with laughter as they sped down the mountain. It was one of the highlights of the trip for sure.

2. Brunch buffet with a view

Brunch in the clouds, is probably the best way to put it. After riding the gondola up to the Revelation Lodge, we stepped out to one of the most incredible views. The lodge is situated right on the side of Mount Mackenzie, with a balcony that looks out onto the Columbia River Valley and the town of Revelstoke. We filled our plates with all of our breakfast favourites from the buffet (and I mean ALL), grabbed a coffee and headed out to enjoy our meal looking out at the breathtaking views!

The brunch buffet is available between May and October, and if you pre-book online you can get your breakfast and lower gondola lift access for under $35!

3. Hiking & Sightseeing

From just hopping onto the upper gondola, we found ourselves in silence climbing up the mountain taking in the views. The lush green forests, waterfalls and jaw-dropping views of the valley surrounded us with a 360 view from our gondola cart as we crept above the clouds.

If you jump off at the upper gondola station, you will find the Cupcake Loop trail through the subalpine forest, and the infamous Kill the Banker challenge trail which are both back for another season. Plus, three brand new hiking trails are opening this summer, offering various difficulty levels, amazing views of the Columbia river and even a trail to a secret lake.

Not looking for a long hike? Take the small path through the forest to see the scenic valley lookout, or head to the yoga platform beside Mackenzie Outpost for the glacier lookout.

4. Dinner at the Rockford

The perfect way to end a long day on the mountain was hitting up the Rockford Grill for a delicious meal. With an asian fusion type menu, there was something for everyone in our group - even with two serious allergies!

And if you’re like me, and you enjoy a patio with a view, you will appreciate this location while you sip on Okanagan wine and local beer, enjoying the incredible, fresh food among friends.

5. Every room has a scenic view

Walking into our suite, we were pleasantly surprised to have two bedrooms, each with their own ensuite bathrooms. Our kitchen was modernized, and our dining and living areas were spacious and comfortable. Not to mention, our balcony looked out onto an incredible mountain range where we drank wine and watched the cotton candy sunset each night. Our other group members had a similar layout, with two balconies that captured the site of the gondola climbing up the mountain, with the lush greenery surrounding it.

The Sutton Place Hotel is a smoke-free hotel featuring 205 condominium hotel units with premium amenities, four on-site dining options, year round outdoor hot tubs and pool and luxurious furnishings. Each room will boast a view of either the Monashee and Selkirk Mountains, or the gondola climbing up Mount Mackenzie.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort also offers a host of relaxing experiences if you’re really looking to unwind during your stay. Every Sunday morning, you can head up to the upper gondola station for a free yoga session on a platform overlooking the entire Columbia River Valley. Or, book a massage or service at the Feather & Stone Day Spa located in the Revelstoke Mountain Resort village. You can also soak in one of the resort’s all-season outdoor hot tubs overlooking the beautiful Monashee mountains.

We discovered Revelstoke Mountain Resort to be the perfect weekend getaway to start the summer off, as it provided us with that “off the grid” feeling when we were up on the mountain, but had all of the amenities we were looking for when it came to entertainment, food and accommodation. If you have never experienced a ski-resort during the summer months, Revelstoke Mountain Resort has got to be added to your summer checklist!
